About Us

Faith Community Church is a local, autonomous fellowship of Bible-believing Christians.  We are believers in Christ of different age groups and from different backgrounds.  We meet for the common purpose of worshipping and serving the Lord Jesus Christ together and making Him known in our community.

OUR PURPOSE

Faith Community Church exists in order to fully know God and His Son Jesus Christ - "that we may present everyone mature in Christ Jesus”    (Colossians 1v28 TNIV)

OUR VISION

(what achieving this purpose will look like)

1)  Worship – loving God:

a) Desiring and enjoying God and his Son Jesus Christ above all else (Psalm 73v25-26; 1 Peter 1v8).

b) Praising and acknowledging God Sunday to Saturday (Romans 12:1-2; Hebrews 13v15-16).

2) Fellowship – loving one another:

a) Really knowing and loving one another deeply (Philippians 1v11) and accepting one another unconditionally (Romans 15v7).

b) Using whatever gifts we have received to serve one another with God’s strength (1 Peter 4v10-11).

3) Discipleship – loving others:

a) Making God and His Son Jesus Christ known to our friends, neighbours and colleagues that they may know him too (Matt 28v18-20).

b) Being transformed into the character of our Lord Jesus Christ (Galatians 4v19).

What we believe

1.  There is one God, eternally co-existing in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28v18, 2 Corinthians 13v14)

2.  The Bible is God's written revelation to man, inspired, inerrant and authoritative, the sole authority for all our beliefs and practices (2Timothy 3v16-17)

3.  Jesus Christ is true God and true man, born of a virgin, sinless, crucified for the sins of mankind, risen from death, ascended into heaven, exalted to the place of highest authority (Romans 5v6-8, 8v34;  Philippians 2v6-8; Colossians 2v9; Hebrews 7v26; 1Peter 3v18; 1John 2v2)

4.  Mankind was created in the image of God, separated from God by sin and now sinful by nature and by practice, unable by any personal effort or worth to enter God’s presence (Gen 1:26, Rom 3v9-20, 5v12-21; Eph 2v8-9)

5.  By personal repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, individuals may experience complete forgiveness of sins and be born again into God’s family, receiving the gift of eternal life and being saved by grace from God’s wrath (Acts 2v38, 3v19, 20v21; Romans 3v21-26)

6.  The Holy Spirit is a person of the Godhead, performing the miracle of the new birth in non-believers, indwelling them as believers and enabling them to live godly lives (John 3v1-8, Gal 5v16)

7.  The church as the body of Christ is comprised of all those who have been made alive by the Holy Spirit as they repent and believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour (Acts 2v38-47)

8.  Since every Christian has the Spirit residing within them (Romans 8v9,11) believers in Christ will inevitably give demonstration to their new birth by works produced by the Spirit (Acts 26v20; Galatians 5v19-23; James 2 v 14-26).  This is often referred to as sanctification.

9.  Though sanctification will occur in varying degrees and does not mean that believers will not sin ( 1 John 1 v8-2v2; e.g. 2Samuel 11), the Bible promises that it will indeed occur as a general pattern (Romans 8v29-30; 2Corinithians 3v18; Philippians 1v6, 2v13).

10. Genuine believers will continue to trust in Jesus Christ for salvation (1Corinthians 15v2; Colossians 1v23) by continuing in their initial confession of faith (John 15v1-6; Colossians 2v6-7; Hebrews 3v6,14)

11. Those who have truly trusted in Jesus Christ and received the Holy Spirit are eternally secure.  Their salvation can never be lost (Romans 8v31-39)

12. Christ commanded all believers to be baptised (Matthew 28v19-20; Acts 2v41-42).  Baptism by immersion symbolises the believer’s identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection (Romans 6v2-3).  Baptism should follow conversion as soon as is practically possible (Acts 8v36, 10v47, 22v16).

13. Christ commanded believers to remember Him in the celebration of the Lord’s Supper (Luke 22v19-20).  In this way we seek to keep the meaning of the Lord’s death and resurrection fresh in our minds, as he expressed His desire for us to do.  Those who have trusted Christ to be their personal Saviour and Lord, and have a love for other believers as Christ commanded are welcome to participate.  The Bible asks us to examine ourselves before participating (1Corinthians 11v27-30).

14. As an independent and autonomous church we are answerable to the Lord Jesus Christ himself as our Head.  He has made Himself known to us through the scriptures rather than through any human institution and we seek to give him first place in everything (Colossians 1v18).

15. Church leadership rests in the hands of elders supported by mature believers serving as deacons (Acts 6v1-6, 20v28; 1Peter 5v1-5).  No single pastor, minister or priest is in charge of the congregation.  All believers are encouraged to fulfil their role as priests (1Peter 2v5-9).

16. Spiritual gifts are given to all believers by the Holy Spirit to benefit the church (Romans 12v5-8; 1 Corinthians 12v4-11; Ephesians 4v11-16).   We are not a charismatic church in the modern usage of that word.

17. The sign of a spiritual filled church is not the presence of spiritual gifts – though very important – but the manifestation of the ‘fruit of the Spirit’ (1Corinthians 12v31a-14v1a; Galatians 5v22-23).

18. God has ordained men and women to function differently within the body of Christ and the family.  Just as there is equality between the Father and the Son (John 10v30, 17v11) and yet they have different functions (1Corinthians 11v3) so too there is equality between men and women (Galatians 3v28) and yet they are to function differently in both the family (Ephesians 5v22-25; Colossians 3v18-19; 1Peter3v1,7) and the church (1Corinthians 11v3; 1Timothy 2v8-15) where men have specific responsibilities in relation to headship and leadership.

19. We believe in the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ, and that there will be a resurrection and judgement resulting in eternal punishment for the unsaved and eternal life for the saved. (1Thess 4v13-18, Matt 25v46)

20. We believe that all true Christians belong to the body of Christ, the Church, whatever the social class, age, nationality or denominational background (1 Cor 12v13, CoI 3v11), and so we are happy to welcome all such people into our local expression of the church in Christ's name.   The only reason for exclusion from Christian fellowship is because of serious moral rebellion inconsistent with the Christian life (1 Cor 5v11) or serious doctrinal error on basic doctrines (2 John v7-11).

21. Differences of opinion among believers on secondary doctrinal issues, not immediately relevant to salvation, should never be the cause of a break in fellowship (Romans 14v1-15v7).

22. We recognise that other godly believers hold various interpretations on the aforementioned points.  We consider it necessary to state that those in fellowship with us should be aware of our various positions and humbly respect them.  While we would ask that this involve refraining from publicly teaching anything to the contrary we admit our need to continually learn along with the possibility that we have not interpreted some passages of scripture correctly.  We remain open to other interpretations and thus humbly welcome private discussion in any of the aforementioned areas as long as it is carried out in a spirit of love and peace.
